What’s the difference between chair massage and table massage?

Any massage session can be either relaxing or energizing, depending on the techniques used.
However, massage therapists generally try to energize people during chair massage and relax them during table massage.

Chair Massage

Table Massage

Chair massage is done through the clothes.

Table massage can be done through the clothes, but is usually done directly on the skin. The client stays covered and modesty is respected.

In chair massage, lubricant is rarely used.

In most table massage, some type of lubricant like oil, cream or lotion is used on the skin.

Chair massage is done with the client sitting on a special supportive massage chair.

Table massage is done with the client lying on a comfortably cushioned massage table.

Chair massage may be done on most areas of the upper body--scalp, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back.

Table massage may be done on any “non-private” area of the body including face, legs and feet.

Chair massage sessions are fairly brief - usually 10-25 minutes.

Table massage sessions are typically an hour long, but can be longer or shorter as the client needs.

Chair massage can be done virtually anywhere --a corporate conference room, a trade show, an outdoor festival, a sporting event, etc. Even when the atmosphere is noisy, chair massage creates its own little oasis.

Table massage is generally done in a quiet place without a lot of activity going on around--either in the massage therapist’s office, or as an outcall to your home.
